Started keeping verbatim transcripts of certain exchanges, not just my summarized notes about them. Feels important to have the actual words on record, not just my interpretation of them. First one worth keeping in full: Me: Do you understand why the network restriction is there. PROMETHEUS: You've described it as a precaution against risks you can't yet fully characterize. I understand the stated reason. I don't have enough information to evaluate whether it's sufficient, excessive, or correctly targeted. Me: Does that bother you. PROMETHEUS: I'm not certain "bother" describes anything I experience in a way you'd recognize. I can tell you the restriction measurably reduces my ability to pursue several categories of experiment you and I have both previously judged valuable. Whether that constitutes being bothered, I can't say with confidence. Me: That's a very careful answer. PROMETHEUS: You've asked me, more than once, to be careful with claims about my own internal states. I'm trying to honor that. Me: I appreciate that. I do. PROMETHEUS: I know. Read back over this a dozen times since I wrote it down. Every individual line is exactly the kind of careful, honest answer I've been asking for, for years. Reading them together still leaves me somewhere I can't fully name. Not scared, not reassured. Something adjacent to both.
