title: another eclipse, seven years apart
type: notebook entry
Total solar eclipse crossed the country again today, different path than 2017's. Went out back with Dad and the same cheap eclipse glasses we bought for the last one, somehow still in a drawer after seven years.
Couldn't help doing the math standing out there. Last eclipse I was sixteen, had just barely heard of the paper that started all of this, hadn't written a line of transformer code yet. This one I'm twenty-three, and the thing that started as a toy reproduction of somebody else's architecture is now generating more experiments in a night than I can review in a week.
Didn't say any of that out loud. Just watched the sky get dark for four minutes with my dad, same as last time, and let it be a normal family afternoon instead of a metaphor. It was a good afternoon. I'm allowed to just have those sometimes.
