Anthropic released Opus 5 yesterday, big deal in every corner of the internet I still follow. Spent an hour actually using it through the API, mostly out of professional curiosity. Genuinely impressive, by any reasonable outside standard. And I caught myself, almost immediately, running an internal comparison against ARIA that I know isn't fair or even really coherent — different training regimes, different objectives, different everything, not an apples-to-apples question in any meaningful sense. Did it anyway. Couldn't stop myself. Not writing down the conclusion I came to. Not sure I trust it, and not sure it's a comparison I should even be making in the first place.
